Herbert Huppert 教授现任职于剑桥大学应用数学与理论物理学院理论地球物理系。他的研究方向是将流体力学应用于大气、海洋和岩体领域。Herbert Huppert 教授于1987年获选英国皇家学会会士,因其对地球科学的重要贡献,于2005年获得美国科学院Arthur L.Day奖,同时是美国地球物理协会和美国物理协会会士,并于2007年获得英国地质协会Murchison奖章,同时在2011年英国皇家学会进行了Bakerian奖讲座。
Abstract
In many places throughout the world, ocean surface waves propagate over coral reefs. We will develop the equations describing the rate of propagation of these waves, the dispersion relationship, and the second order Stokes drift, which has, because of the influence of the porous coral layer a vertical component, which is all important in the fluid flow between the reef and the overlying ocean, bringing in food for the biological life in the coral reef and expelling debris caused by them. The analysis and ideas will be shown to suggest a very effective way to defend against tsunamis, which can cause excessive damage and loss of life, and has done so regularly since antiquity.
